The North Carolina softball team swept day two of the Eagle Classic II, taking down Eastern Kentucky and host Georgia Southern.
The Tar Heels put on a stellar performance on both sides of the ball, tallying 24 hits on the day while allowing only six hits by their opponents.
Game One: Eastern Kentucky
Eastern Kentucky recorded two quick hits to start the game but that was the only offense they would manage, as the Tar Heels put in a solid defensive effort on top of a stellar performance inside the batter's box, tallying 16 hits in the victory.
Taylor Wike would start the game off with a triple and would be brought in two batters later after Amber Parrish singled up the middle, making it 1-0 UNC after one inning.
With the bases loaded in the third, Jenna Kelly laced a single into right center for two RBI's and Kristen Brown and Kendra Lynch would knock RBI singles to put Carolina up 5-0.
The Tar Heels would tack on two more runs to make give them the 7-0 victory.
Kristen Brown was perfect at the plate as the junior shortstop racked up three singles and a double to go 4-4 with two RBI's.
Kendra Lynch earned her third win of the season inside the circle, fanning four Colonel hitters in five innings. Freshman Sydney Matzko entered the game in the fifth, striking out two while picking up the save.
Game Two: Georgia Southern
Once again Carolina scored early and would not surrender the lead. After Taylor Wike was hit by the opening pitch and Aquilla Mateen bunted for a single, Amber Parrish would blast a triple to right field that would just stay in the ballpark. Jenna Kelly would finish the job though one batter later as the first baseman sent a pitch over the wall in centerfield, making it a four run UNC lead after one inning.
Kaylee Carlson started the game in the circle, giving up only two hits while striking out one over three innings. Sydney Matzko would come in to provide relief and close out the game, striking out one while permitting two hits.
In the fourth, Wike singled through the left side with the bases loaded to bring in a run and Tracy Chandless forced a walk with the bases loaded, giving Carolina the lead 6-0.
Kristen Brown would end her day in style, blasting a solo home run to lead off the fifth. Kendra Lynch would follow her with a double off the wall. Dani Garcielita would come in to pinch run and was brought home after an errant throw to the plate after a Lauren Walker single, giving UNC the win 9-0.
