
Cranston Scores First For UNC At Day 1 Of ACCs

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Tar Heels are off to a great start on the first day of the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted this year by the University of Virginia. Freshman Kyle Cranston scored the first points for North Carolina as the Tar Heels competed in six events Thursday.
Cranston took seventh men's javelin throw with a distance of 197-5 3/4, and also competed in the first five events of the men's decathlon. Freshman Joe Hutchinson in sitting in third with 3,754 points, and Cranston is in fifth with 3,631 points behind lead Curtis Beach of Duke with 4,060 points. The duo finished second and third at the ACC Indoor Championships in the indoor heptathlon.
Sophomore Ariel Roberts also competed in the first day of competition for the women's heptathlon. After taking first in the high jump with a height of 5-7, Roberts is in second place heading into day two with 3,158 points behind Maryland's Kiani Profit with 3,378 points.
