
Parsons Takes Third To Lead Carolina At ACCs Day 1

DURHAM, N.C.- Junior Emory Parsons led the Carolina track and field team on the first day of the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday. The three-day conference meet is being held at Duke University's Wallace Wade Stadium.
Parons took third in the men's discus throw, scoring the first points of the meet for the Tar Heels. His throw of 175-2 is his personal-best performance by more than four feet.
Sophomore Kendra Schaaf placed fourth in the women's 10,000 meters in 34:38.06, taking over the No. 5 all-time spot for UNC, and freshman John Raneri finished eighth in the men's event in 30:13.78.
Senior Gabby Gioia took sixth in the women's javelin throw with a toss of 140-0 and was one of three Carolina women competing in today's heptathlon events. Sophomore Ariel Roberts won the high jump with a height of 5-7 3/4, good enough for 879 points, and is in third so far with 3,180 points. Gioia is in fourth with 3,041 points, and junior Danielle Brock is in sixth with 3,000 points.
In the men's multi, senior Mateo Sossah finished the first day of competition in third place with 3,994 points. Sossah also won the high jump section with a height of 6-9 to score 859 points towards his total.
