The Tar Heels won in the Smith Center for the 25th consecutive time, tying the record set in 1992-94. It also equals the third-longest home win streak in UNC history. The record is 32 from 1926-1929 in the Indoor Athletic Center (aka Tin Can). There was a 26-game streak from 1922-26 in Bynum Gym and the Tin Can and two other 25-game streaks (in Carmichael Auditorium from 1977-80) and the Smith Center (from 1992-94).
Harrison Barnes set a career high with five assists to go along with his 18 points and five rebounds. Barnes also did not commit a turnover for the second game in a row.
Tyler Zeller led all scorers with 19 points and grabbed a career-high tying 13 rebounds. He pulled down nine offensive boards, a career best. Zeller has double figure rebounds in each of the last four games, thefirst time he has done that as a Tar Heel.
The double-double was Zeller's fourth this season and ninth of his career. Zeller now has 1,081 points at UNC. He passed Jerry Stackhouse (1,080) tonight for 57th place in school history.
John Henson also had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. It was the sixth of the season and 25th of his career.
Carolina had a 23-0 run in the first half that gave the Tar Heels a 41-14 lead. That is the most consecutive points by UNC since a 25-0 run against NC State on Jan. 12, 2008.
Kendall Marshall had eight assists and one only turnover. He now has 139 assists and only 33 turnovers this year, a ratio of 4.2 to 1.
Dexter Strickland scored 10 points, his fifth double-figure scoring game this year.
Reggie Bullock did not score in double figures (7) for the first time in six games, but he did have six rebounds, the fourth straight game he has pulled down at least six rebounds.
Carolina led by 34 at the half. Its previous largest halftime margin this year was 30 vs. Evansville.
