UNC Head Coach Roy Williams' Opening Statement:
"We feel good about the outcome. I thought we played pretty well during stretches. I think that yesterday in practice may have been as good of a practice as we have had all year long, defensively. I thought we were good defensively today. We didn't come out playing the way I wanted to play. One of the three things I put up on the board [before the game]is get the ball inside by dribble or pass and in the first four possessions we had three outside shots, so we have got to get a little better focused. Then those guys settled down. We got it inside. We shared the ball. We brought five guys in, and I thought those guys really helped us moving the basketball and getting established in the tempo that we wanted. They were trying to control the tempo a little bit, and it's hard to speed them up. I thought Larry [Drew II] was really good defensively. I think that he set the tempo with a lot of those turnovers. Even the first play of the second half, getting the turnover on the inbounds play, I thought was big. We didn't follow up that one by making the free throws, but we are getting better defensively.
"We still have some lapses, but I think we are also getting better offensively by moving the ball and sharing the ball and you have to love eight guys in double figures, but they always say strong teams can make substitutions and have people help you, and I think that's what our guys did tonight. The guys that came off the bench added something to [the game]. That was important to us. [St. Francis] is in a tough stretch. This is seven out of nine games on the road for St. Francis. That's not easy for anybody to play."
Saint Francis Head Coach: Don Friday
"We knew coming into this game that North Carolina tries to force a lot of turnovers with their defense and to score in transition. So we wanted to try and take care of the ball but Carolina's defense was very effective against us tonight. We have a lot of respect for the North Carolina program and what it stands for. We are glad our guys were able to experience some big-time college basketball tonight."
