
Tar Heels Sweep Eagles In Second Half of Doubleheader

CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina finished their season-opening doubleheader with a convincing victory over North Carolina Central University.
After taking the first match of the day against Presbyterian College 7-0, the 28th-ranked Tar Heels continued the fine play with a 7-0 win in the night match.
North Carolina earned the team doubles point with three strong performances. The Heels were led by the No. 1 doubles pairing of Clay Donato and Stefan Hardy, who defeated Jack Waissen and Alejandro Espitia 8-1. Both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams won their matches without dropping a game.
In singles, Donato, ranked 36th nationally, again led the charge with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Waissen. Luke Mojica made quick work of his opponent in No. 6 singles, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win. North Carolina clinched their second win of the season as talented freshman Jose Hernandez took the No. 2 singles flight with a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Brennan Boyajian, Stefan Hardy and Andrew Crone also notched singles victories for the Heels.
After the win, Head Coach Sam Paul shared his thoughts on the upcoming season.
"We're excited, really looking forward to the dual-match format this season," Paul said. "I saw some good things today but we have a lot to work on as we look forward to Miami next week."
North Carolina will play play Miami on Jan. 31 in Athens, Ga. at 9 a.m.
