CONWAY, S.C. - The No. 15 North Carolina softball team was unable to overcome a pair of early errors as the Tar Heels fell to No. 14 Missouri 8-0. The Tigers pushed across five runs in the third and fourth to seal Carolina's fate, dropping the Tar Heels to 21-7 on the year. Carolina will take on Longwood and Fordham in a midweek twinbill on Wednesday at Anderson Stadium.
Missouri pushed across a run in the top of the first as the Tigers loaded the bases with one out. Starter Constance Orr forced a groundout to score the first run before getting a fly out to end the threat.
The Tigers took advantage of a pair of Tar Heel errors in the third as they tacked on two more runs to extend the lead to 3-0. Missouri picked up the big hit in the fourth when Rhea Taylor connected on a three-run home run to right field.
A solo shot in the top of the fifth ended Orr's day as Lisa Norris came on staring at a 7-0 deficit. Norris would see the same fate as Orr when Marla Schweisberger made it back-to-back home runs and putting Missouri in front 8-0.
Missouri starter Stacy Delaney recorded a no-hitter in the five-inning run-rule game that dropped Carolina to 21-7 on the year. The Tar Heels will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they host Longwood at 4 p.m. and Fordham at 6 p.m. at Anderson Stadium.
