CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 22nd-ranked UNC Tar Heels won every match played in a 7-0 shutout of Georgetown on Friday afternoon.
Carolina's win over the Hoyas was the first part of a Friday doubleheader that concludes with a night match against Howard.
The Tar Heels got off to quick start in doubles, losing only four games combined. Eleventh-ranked Clay Donato and Taylor Fogleman were the first to finish with an 8-0 victory. Andrew Crone and Zach Hunter clinched the team point for UNC shortly afterwards, beating Georgetown's Andrew Bruhn and Adam Gross.
With the score at 1-0, UNC wasted no time in extending its lead in singles play. Forty-second ranked Fogleman led the charge with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the second singles spot. Carolina's team lead stretched to three with a 6-0, 6-2 win by 27th-ranked Donato. The match was clinched when Alex Rafiee completed a straight-sets victory over Rafael Notario, but Brennan Boyajian, Andrew Crone and Luke Mojica all went on to win their matches in two sets as well.
North Carolina will play Howard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
