UNC Wins Season Opener Against Charlotte

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 20th-ranked UNC Tar Heels kicked off their 2008 dual match regular season with a decisive victory on Saturday afternoon.
Carolina's Sunday doubleheader began at 1 p.m. against Charlotte, a match the Tar Heels won 5-2.
The fifth-ranked doubles pair of Clay Donato and Taylor Fogleman started UNC off on the right track with an 8-0 win over Charlotte's Jeff Archer and Jesse Hutchinson. Andrew Crone and Zach Hunter then clinched the doubles point with an 8-3 victory over Moritz Bernhoerster and Chris Huynh, which was followed by an 8-6 win for the all-freshman pairing of Luke Mojica and Alex Rafiee.
Donato opened up singles play with a straight sets victory against Ricky Cuellar, and Fogleman's 6-1, 6-1 win shortly afterwards extended the Tar Heels' lead to 3-0. Brennan Boyajian then clinched the match for Carolina, winning his second-set tiebreaker 7-1 to secure a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Moritz Bernhoerster. Luke Mojica followed his fellow freshman Boyajian's winning effort with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at the fifth singles spot.
North Carolina's next match is Sunday evening against James Madison.
