Tar Heels Swept In Miami

MIAMI, Fla. - The North Carolina volleyball team dropped its second consecutive sweep on Wednesday when the Tar Heels fell 3-0 at Miami (13-17, 7-14 ACC) in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Heather Brooks and Megan Owens led the Tar Heels with eight kills apiece as Stephanie Jansma recorded a double-double with 32 assists and 12 digs. Carolina will close out the 2007 season on Friday when it takes on Florida State at 1 p.m. in Tallahassee, Fla.
Despite leading early in game one, Carolina was unable to keep the advantage as Miami battled back for the 30-25 opening game one win. The Tar Heels scored seven of the opening 10 points but allowed an 8-1 run falling behind 11-8. The Hurricanes would not trail the rest of the way to claim the opening game win. Carolina hit .062 in game one defeat.
Carolina would not be able to regain the momentum in game two as Miami claimed a 2-0 match lead with a 30-18 victory. The Tar Heels fell behind early as Miami took a 10-5 lead and cruise from that point. Carolina would pull within four on two occasions from that point but were never able to pull itself back into the contest.
The Tar Heels were unable to claw their way back into the match in game three as the host Hurricanes claimed a 30-22 win and a 3-0 sweep, the second straight against Carolina. The Tar Heels had a little more fire in game three as they battled the Hurricanes deep into the third game and took a 22-21 on a kill from Heather Brooks. The lead not hold as Miami rolled off nine consecutive points to claim the 30-22 game three win and the 3-0 sweep.
Heather Brooks was a highlight for the Tar Heels as she finished with eight kills on a .400 hitting percentage. Stephanie Jansma recorded another double-double with 32 assists and 12 digs in the defeat.
Carolina will close out the 2007 season on Friday when it takes on Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla. at 1 p.m.
