CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina men's tennis team remained unbeaten at home in four matches this season as it took down James Madison Saturday evening 7-0 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Coach Sam Paul was able to get some other players experience in the singles lineup with freshmen Will Plyler and David Stone starting but the Tar Heels were still able to claim all six singles matches with straight set wins. UNC improved to 4-2 with the win heading into a key ITA Mideast Region match against South Carolina in Chapel Hill next Thursday at 2:30 p.m. The Dukes fell to 1-3 on the campaign. Earlier in the day the Tar Heels whipped Campbell 6-1 in the first half of their day-night doubleheader Saturday.
UNC swept all three doubles matches to claim the team point there before exhibiting solid singles play. Senior Geoff Boyd and junior Brad Pomeroy improved to 15-3 in doubles play with their win over David Emery and Jesse Tarr at the No. 1 spot 8-6.
Tar Heel junior Raian Luchici led the way in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over David Emery at No. 1 while Brad Pomeroy finished off a 2-0 day in singles with a victory at No. 2 over Jesse Tarr 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman Benjamin Carlotti and sophomore Sebastian Guejman both moved up two spots in the lineup from the morning match to garner wins at No. 3 and No. 4 as both went 2-0 on the day. Carolina's consistent play was capped at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots as in-state freshmen Will Plyler (Raleigh, N.C.) and David Stone (Greensboro, N.C.) snared straight-set victories.
