COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Shay Doron scored a career-high 37 points to lead No. 21 Maryland to a 92-77 upset over No. 5 North Carolina on Sunday.
The Terrapins (11-2, 1-1 ACC) won their first game over a top-five opponent since beating No. 1 Tennessee on Dec. 30, 1992.
Crystal Langhorne added 23 points and 14 rebounds for Maryland. Doron finished 20-for-22 from the free-throw line.
Ivory Latta had 21 points and Nikita Bell added 18 for North Carolina (11-2, 0-1). The Tar Heels, who entered the game shooting a conference-best 47 percent, shot a season-low 38 percent.
It was the most points North Carolina allowed since giving up 97 to Duke on Feb. 20, 2003.
Maryland went on a 13-0 run for a 27-15 lead before North Carolina ended the half on a 6-0 run to trail 41-31 at the break.
The Tar Heels pulled within six points with 8:33 left, but Maryland made 18 of its last 19 free throws.
The Terrapins snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Tar Heels.
