TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Ganiyat Adeduntan scored a career-high 26 points and Roneeka Hodges had 23, including a three-point play that tied the game late in regulation, to lead Florida State past North Carolina 79-73 in overtime Thursday night.
Adeduntan made a 3-pointer to open overtime, and the Seminoles never trailed again. Florida State (17-2, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) is off to the best start in school history.
The ninth-ranked Tar Heels (14-3, 2-2) went scoreless for nearly seven minutes in regulation and overtime, and missed their last seven shots in the second half - including three in the last 35 seconds.
Holly Johnson and Alicia Gladden made two free throws each in the final 25 seconds to seal the Seminoles' second overtime win over a ranked ACC foe in less than a week. The Seminoles beat then-No. 15 Maryland 95-91 on Sunday.
The win snapped FSU's six-game losing streak against North Carolina, which won 15 of the previous 16 meetings.
Hodges' three-point play with 1:53 left in the second half tied it at 64, and neither team scored again until overtime. North Carolina's LaTangela Atkinson was short on a 3-pointer that could have won it is the clock ticked down.
Freshman Erlana Larkins scored 21 and Camille Little added 17 for the Tar Heels. Atkinson finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Seminoles pulled even at 37 heading into halftime when Adeduntan, who scored 16 in the first half, hit a tying 3 from the right corner with less than 22 seconds left.
North Carolina outscored the Seminoles 44-28 in the paint, but shot 17 fewer free throws.
