UNC Defeats Maryland 2-0, Troy State 6-1 at FSU Invitational

Tallahassee, Fla. - The North Carolina softball team won the Silver bracket of the FSU Invitational on Sunday as the Tar Heels rebounded from three straight losses to win their last three over Robert Morris, Maryland and Troy State. UNC beat Maryland 2-0 in the semifinals of the Silver bracket, and then defeated Troy State 6-1 to take the Silver title.
Natashalyn Snipes went 3-4 with a run and two runs batted in to lead Carolina in the win over Troy State. Alison Yin pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits and striking out five. Joslin Higgins and Dionne Streete also had a strong day at the plate. Higgins went 2-3 with two RBI's and Streete went 2-4 with two runs scored.
In the 2-0 win over Maryland, Crystal Cox pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 11 batters and allowing just three hits and a walk for the game. Jessica Young provided the spark on offense as she hit a two-run double in the third inning driving in Marissa May and Snipes. That was all UNC needed as Cox dominated the rest of the way from the mound.
The Tar Heels return to action on Wednesday with a doubleheader versus Marshall at the UNC Softball Complex.
