UNC Defeats Robert Morris, Fall to Penn State and Nebraska at FSU Invitational

Tallahassee, Fla. - The North Carolina softball team fell in their first two games on Saturday to Penn State and 19th-ranked Nebraska, but battled back in their third game of the day to defeat Robert Morris 5-2. Pitcher Ashley Allen pitched five innings, allowing just one earned run and three hits to earn the victory. Jessica Young powered North Carolina as she went 2-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored. The Tar Heels are now 17-13 on the season and will face Maryland at 10 a.m. on Sunday in the semifinals of the Silver Bracket of the FSU Invitational.
In the 5-2 win over Robert Morris, the Tar Heels also got offensive contributions from Emily Price, Julia Bove and Jessica Robinson. Price went 3-4 with a RBI and Bove also went 3-4, as she scored a run and had a stolen base. Robinson hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the fifth inning to wrap up the scoring for UNC. Allen improved to 2-0 on the season and also strukout a season-high seven batters.
UNC played Penn State in the first game of the day and fell 1-0. Crystal Cox pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven. The Tar Heel offense couldn't generate a run though as they managed only three hits for the game.
Carolina played No. 19 Nebraska immediately after the PSU loss and fell 10-0 in six innings of play. Anna Evans got the only hit in the game for the Tar Heels and Cox and Alison Yin struggled from the mound as they served up a combined eight earned runs on 11 hits.
