Tar Heel Softball splits doubleheader at Furman

The University of North Carolina Softball team split a pair of games in Greenville, S.C. Thursday afternoon at Furman University, losing in the first game 2-1 and winning the second 8-0.
In the first game, Carolina took an early one run lead in the first inning. However, the Lady Paladins scored one run each in the second and fifth inning to win the game 2-1 in six and a half innings.
Junior outfielder Tiffany Tolleson reached base on her first at-bat and scored on a double by junior Quinn Porter. The Tar Heels were then held hitless until the top of the seventh inning by Furman's freshman pitcher Rachel Henley.
In the second game, freshman pitcher Ashley Allen (5-3) allowed only three hits in five innings as she struck out two Furman batters. Sophmore Emily Price led the Tar Heels going three for three with one RBI and two runs scored. Senior catcher Natalie Anter went two for two in the game with a double and two runs batted in. Sophmore Dionne Streete also added three RBIs for the Tar Heels.
Carolina (13-14) now travels to the Buzz Classic in Atlanta, Georgia for games this Friday thru Sunday.
