
Carolina's Trystan Meniane Advances At ITA National Indoors

FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS - Trystan Meniane of the North Carolina men's tennis team won his first round match in the 2002 Omni Hotels National Indoor Championships Thursday afternoon at the Brookhaven Country Club. The Championships, presented by The Dallas Morning News, are hosted by Southern Methodist University.
Meniane, a senior from Martinuque, France, defeated the tournament's #7 seed, Rameez Junaid of Auburn, in the Round of 32. Meniane came back from a first set loss to beat Junaid by a score of 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. The singles bracket includes 32 players. Meniane qualified for the championships by finishing as the singles runnerup in the Omni Hotels Mideast Regionals held two weeks ago in Chapel Hill.
Meniane now advances to the second round of the tournament (Round of 16) to play Roger Anderson of Georgia Tech. Anderson, ranked 20th nationally in collegiate singles, beat Meniane in three sets just 10 days ago to win the Mideast Regional singles championship in Chapel Hill. Anderson won his first round match Thursday by beating UCLA's Erfan Djangiri, 6-3, 7-5.
