UNC Finally Earns Win Over Virginia

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Two weeks after play began, the University of North Carolina softball team finally finished up its doubleheader with Virginia, winning 2-0 Friday morning. The game was started on March 31, but was suspended due to rain and darkness after six scoreless innings. The Tar Heels won the first game of the doubleheader 2-1 in nine innings.
The game resumed Friday at 8:30 a.m. with Hannah Owings leading off for the Cavaliers. She reached on a walk, but was picked off by UNC catcher Natalie Anter. Relief pitcher Radara McHugh struck out the next two batters to end the inning. Dionne Streete singled up the middle to get things going for the Tar Heels. Quinn Porter followed her with her first homerun of the season. The two run shot ended the game.
UNC improved to 27-16-1 overall and 2-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Virginia fell to 37-13, 0-2 in the conference.
The Tar Heels host Campbell University Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Finley Field.
