UNC Softball Falls To Cal In Buzz Classic Semifinal

MARIETTA, Ga.-The University of North Carolina softball team advanced to the semifinals of the Buzz Classic Sunday before falling to California, 8-0 in six innings. The Tar Heels beat Ohio State 3-1 in nine innings to reach the semifinal matchup with the Golden Bears.
Carolina (21-13-1) returns to action Saturday, when the team hosts Virginia to open Atlantic Coast Conference play. The doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. at Finley Field.
Sunday at the Buzz Classic, UNC began play at 9 a.m., meeting Ohio State, which had beaten the Tar Heels 2-1 Saturday in pool play. This time Carolina came out on top, scoring a run in the third and two in the top of the ninth for a 3-1 win. Senior Beth Olen went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and the Tar Heels totaled seven hits. Senior Radara McHugh struck out seven in the win.
In the semifinal game, Cal-Berkeley scored a run in the first and seven in the sixth to earn the win. The Golden Bears had 10 hits to UNC's three. Sophomore Michael Parrott took the loss for Carolina, striking out three.
