UNC Softball Advances At Buzz Classic

MARIETTA, Ga.-The North Carolina softball team opened bracket play Saturday night at the Buzz Classic with a 9-0 five-inning shutout of Coastal Carolina. With the win, the Tar Heels (20-12-1) move on to meet Ohio State Sunday at 9 a.m. The matchup is the second with the Buckeyes in less than 24 hours
Carolina scored eight runs in a fourth inning that included a home run by senior Michelle Semmes, who was two-for-three for the game. Sophomore Michael Parrott earned the win, striking out nine.
Earlier Saturday, UNC beat Charleston Southern and lost to Ohio State to finish 2-2 in pool play. UNC placed second in its pool, winning a three-way tie-breaker by giving up the fewest runs.
Against Charleston Southern Saturday afternoon, the Tar Heels won 4-2 on 11 hits. Junior Kelly Ramsey went two-for-three with a double. Senior Beth Olen and freshmen Emily Price and Dionne Streete each had two hits for Carolina.
Senior Radara McHugh gave up just one hit and struck out four in 5 2/3 innings of work to earn the win.
In an evening game, delayed 30 minutes by rain, UNC fell 2-1 to Ohio State. Both teams had five hits, but the Tar Heels committed three errors. Junior Natalie Anter went two-for-three with a double and a first-inning RBI for Carolina. Ohio State scored runs in the second and third innings and held on for the win.
McHugh (11-8) took the loss, striking out six.
