MARIETTA, Ga.-The University of North Carolina softball team fell 2-1 to Tennessee Tech Friday afternoon in the Buzz Classic, hosted by Georgia Tech. Continuing with pool play, the Tar Heels (17-11-1) face Campbell Friday at 8 p.m.
The game was scoreless through five innings before Tennessee Tech scored two runs in the top of the sixth. Stephanie Dallmann and Marianne Novac reached base on walks then scored on Jennifer Smith's two-RBI single.
UNC scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh when junior Sarah Young reached first on a bunt and scored on a throwing error.
Sophomore Michael Parrott (7-4) took the loss for UNC, striking out five.
