UNC Softball Tops Louisiana-Monroe, 4-3

NORMAN, Okla.-The University of North Carolina softball team had to wait out a lengthy rain delay but eventually topped Louisiana-Monroe 4-3 Sunday at the Worth Invitational. The UNC-ULM game, the first of the day, was the only one played before the event was called due to rain. Carolina was to have played Lousiana-Lafayette at 2:30 p.m.
Against ULM, Carolina scored four runs on just four hits to improve to 16-6-1 on the season and finish the tournament 3-1, tied for second place. Senior Radara McHugh earned the win, giving up three hits and two runs (one earned) in five innings. Sophomore Michael Parrott picked up a save.
Junior Kelly Ramsey hit a solo home run, her fourth of the season, in the bottom of the second to tie the score at 1-1. The Tar Heels took the lead in the bottom of the third when sophomore Quinn Porter scored on senior Michelle Semmes' double. UNC scored on a walk to go up 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth before ULM scored again in the top of the fifth on an RBI double.
UNC picked up its final run in the bottom of the sixth on a ULM throwing error. The Indians rallied for another run in the top of the seventh and had a runner on third when Carolina got the third out.
The teams waited out an hour-and-55-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fourth.
North Carolina heads for California Sunday evening and will begin play Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Kia Klassic against host Cal State Fullerton.
