Clemson's Krystal Scott threw a final inbound pass across half-court to Chrissy Floyd, whose 35-footer at the horn fell well short.
"It's a shame anybody has to lose a great game like this," UNC coach Sylvia Hatchell said. "I'm very proud of our team for being tough and playing with heart. Every game is so important now, and tonight's game was extremely big for us."

The loss was the fourth straight for Clemson since it peaked at No. 15 in the Associated Press poll on Jan. 22. The Tar Heels' win was their third straight.
Batth scored eight points in the second half to help Clemson lead by as much as 56-43. The Tigers were ahead until the last 2:26 of regulation.
North Carolina rallied to lead 84-80 with 30 seconds to play with the help of five 3-pointers in the second half.
North Carolina missed its last two shots of the second half, while Clemson's Scott hit a layup with 25 seconds left and then fed Aderhold for another layup with 8.7 seconds remaining to tie 84-84 at the end of regulation.
