UNC Softball Falls 1-0 To Tennessee

RALEIGH, N.C. -The University of North Carolina softball team fell 1-0 to Tennessee Sunday afternoon at the Triangle Classic softball tournament at Walnut Creek Softball Complex. The Tar Heels won their first four games of the tournament, including a 13-0 victory against Tennessee on Saturday, before falling to the Lady Vols.
UNC is 10-2-1 on the season after playing seven games in the past four days. Carolina is idle until it hosts Furman on Tuesday, February 27 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
Against Tennessee, junior Natalie Anter claimed the only Tar Heel hit, a single in the sixth inning. Senior Radara McHugh took the loss for UNC, giving up six hits over six innings of work. When Tennessee scored in the second inning, she saw her school record streak of scoreless innings pitched come to an end at 48.
Nicole Borg pitched seven innings, striking out seven and earning the win for Tennessee, which went on to claim the Triangle Classic championship. Borg was named tournament MVP.
For UNC, both McHugh and senior Michelle Semmes earned spots on the Triangle Classic All-Tournament team.
