Tar Heel Wrestlers Lose To Ohio State 35-4

The University of North Carolina wrestling team finished its two-meet trip to Ohio on Sunday afternoon falling to Ohio State 35-4 at the St. John Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The loss drops the Tar Heels to 2-4 overall for the season, 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Buckeyes improve to 10-3, 1-0 in the Big Ten.
JohnMark Bentley improved his overall record to 19-1 with a 10-2 major decision over Richie Bordner in the 149-pound match. Bentley is the seventh-ranked 149 pounder in the country and has won ten consecutive matches after suffering a one-point loss earlier this season at the Las Vegas Invitational.
Mike Booth carried 6th-ranked Buckeye Robert Sessley to two overtimes in their 141-pound match before losing a 2-1 decision. Four other Tar Heels also lost to ranked Ohio State wrestlers. Ryan Adams lost an 18-3 technical fall at 6:28 to No. 1 Tommy Rowlands in the heavyweight match, Clint Osborn fell to No. 4 Nick Preston 14-6 at 197 pounds, 15th-ranked Nick Richmond lost to No. 16 Anton Talamantes 12-8 at 184 pounds, and Brad Byers was pinned by No. 19 Jeff Ratliff at 4:22 in their 133-pound match.
19th-ranked Corey Bell lost a close decision at 174 pounds, falling to Ryan Hieber 6-4.
Other Tar Heels competing were Chris DiGuiseppe at 157 pounds, Jason Wilson at 165 pounds and Chris Collins at 125 pounds.
Carolina is back in action on January 27, hosting UNC Greensboro at noon before traveling to Appalachian State for a 7:30 p.m. contest later that evening.
