CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina men's tennis team improved to 6-2 on the season with a 6-1 win over the UNC Charlotte 49ers. The Tar Heels have now won three consecutive matches.
At #1 singles, North Carolina senior Tripp Phillips defeated Ola Jonsson of UNC-C. UNC Charlotte's Jacob Nordwall won at #2 singles, defeating Assaf Drori. UNC's David Cheatwood defeated Jeff Kuchma at #3, and Carolina's Trystan Meniane defeated Sasha Parc at #4 singles. At #5 singles, UNC's Chad Riley defeated Thomas Oggesen in a lenghty, three-set match. Carolina's Greg Archer won the #6 singles match, defeating UNC-C's John Valenti.
North Carolina also swept all three doubles matches, with Phillips and Tyne Brownlow winning at #1, Cheatwood and Meniane winning at #2 and Archer and Drori combining to win the at #3 doubles.
"I'm very pleased with our doubles play," said North Carolina Head Coach Sam Paul. "The guys have really been working hard and it's paid off. Even though they will be difficult matches, we're looking forward to our spring break trip."
No. 51 North Carolina will travel to #25 South Carolina on Tuesday, March 14, and to #42 Florida State on Saturday, March 18.
