Tar Heels Take Two In Softball Tournament

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The University of North Carolina softball team improved to 21-9 on the season with two lopsided wins on Friday at the Ringor Winthrop Invitational Tournament. UNC beat Belmont University 9-1 and Charleston Southern 11-1 with an explosive offense that ended each game after six innings.
In their afternoon game against Belmont, the Tar Heels totaled 12 hits. Sophomore Natalie Anter was 2-for-4 with an RBI and senior Crystal Henderson was 2-for-3 with a double. Junior Michelle Semmes accounted for two RBI. Junior Erin Joseph earned the win, striking out three and giving up four hits.
In the evening game against Charleston Southern, Carolina pounded out 15 hits. Semmes had another strong performance at the plate, batting 3-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and three RBI. Junior Beth Olen added a two-RBI double. Freshman Michael Parrott earned the win, giving up just three hits while fanning nine.
The Tar Heels continue tournament play on Saturday, with games scheduled for 1 p.m. and 9 p.m.
