Softball Tops Illinois-Chicago, Northern Illinois

TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of North Carolina softball team ended its week-long trip to Florida in winning fashion on Tuesday, earning wins over Illinois-Chicago and Northern Illinois before boarding the plane home. Carolina beat UIC 5-3 and Northern Illinois 8-0 (six innings) to improve to 19-9 on the season.
Sophomore Natalie Anter hit two-run home runs in both games. Against Illinois-Chicago, she went 3-for-4 at the plate, adding a double to her homer. Junior Erin Joseph pitched the win, allowing four hits and two earned runs in five innings. Freshman Michael Parrott picked up the save, striking out four in two innings of work.
Against Northern Illinois, UNC scored four runs in the bottom of the third and four more in the bottom of the sixth to end the game. Freshman right fielder Quinn Porter, batting in the leadoff spot, went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior shortstop Michelle Semmes was 2-for-4 with a double. Junior pitcher Radara McHugh earned the win, giving up one hit and striking out four in six innings.
The Tar Heels won't be back in Chapel Hill for long before they hit the road again. They begin play on Friday in the Ringor Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
