TAMPA, Fla.-The University of North Carolina softball team finished play in the Speedline Invitational Saturday on a winning note, defeating Georgia Southern 4-0. The victory was the first of the tournament for the Tar Heels, who were 1-4 in Speedline play and are now 17-9 overall.
Freshman pitcher Michael Parrott earned the win for UNC, allowing just two hits and striking out six. Sophomore Kelly Ramsey was 3-for-4 at the plate and sophomore Natalie Anter was 2-for-4 with a two-RBI double.
The Tar Heels scored all the runs they would need in the top of the third on an RBI single by senior Jen Klesaris and Anter's double. Carolina added another run in the top of the sixth when Parrott scored on a single by senior Crystal Henderson.
UNC plays next on Tuesday, when the team takes on Illinois-Chicago and Northern Illinos in back-to-back games in Tampa.
