LAFAYETTE, La. - The UNC softball team's record stands at 1-1 after two days of play at the Louisiana Classics tournament, hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette. The Tar Heels opened tournament play on Friday with a 10-2 win over Florida A&M, but lost 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to the host Lady Cajuns.
In Friday's game, which was halted after six innings, sophomore Kelly Ramsey led the Tar Heels with a 4-for-4, three-RBI performance at the plate. Junior Michelle Semmes went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while senior Jen Klesaris was 3-for-4 with a double. Senior Crystal Henderson hit a home run in the second inning. Freshman Michael Parrott earned the win to improve to 3-0.
On Saturday, the Tar Heels managed just two hits in what would be just their second loss of the season. Louisiana-Lafayette scored a run in the first inning and added two more in the second. The game was halted after 5 1/2 innings because of rain and the UNC-Michigan State game scheduled for Saturday evening was cancelled.
UNC, now 11-2, will play Michigan State Sunday at 10 a.m. and face Florida A&M at 2 p.m.
