LAFAYETTE, La. -- The University of North Carolina softball team finished the Louisiana Classics tournament with a 2-2 record after losing 3-1 to Michigan State and beating Florida A&M 12-2 on Sunday, the final day of play.
In the first game of the day, Michigan State led 1-0 before UNC scored in the top of the sixth inning. Sophomore Natalie Anter, who was 2-for-3 for the game, hit an RBI single to right to score senior Crystal Henderson. The Spartans countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, however, and UNC was unable to score in the top of the seventh.
Against Florida A&M, which UNC had beaten 10-2 on Friday, the Tar Heels totaled 12 hits, including three home runs. Henderson, sophomore Kelly Ramsey and freshman Michael Parrott all homered for UNC, which scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Junior pitcher Erin Joseph earned the win, striking out three and allowing four hits.
Ramsey, who added an RBI-single to her home run against Florida A&M, was named to the all-tournament team.
The Tar Heels, now 12-3 on the season, travel to UNC-Greensboro for a doubleheader on Tuesday. The first game begins at 2:30 p.m.
