
UNC Softball Squad Blanks Purdue, 6-0

RALEIGH, N.C. - The North Carolina softball team kept its perfect record intact by defeating the Purdue Boilermakers 6-0 Friday evening in the Triangle Classic at Walnut Creek Softball Complex. The Tar Heels scored all six of their runs in the third inning off Purdue pitcher Leighann Burke. Senior second baseman Crystal Henderson got the scoring started by doubling home pinch runner Sarah Young. Senior centerfielder Jen Klesaris followed with a three-run home run. She finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBI . Later in the inning, junior first baseman Beth Olen belted a two-run homer. She finished the day going 2-for-2, including two RBI and a double to go with her home run.
Tar Heel pitcher Radara McHugh went four innings allowing only two hits and one walk while striking out six. Reliever Michael Parrot pitched three innings and allowed four hits while striking out five batters.
Due to weather conditions, the Triangle Classic game times have been adjusted from the original schedule. The Tar Heels will take the field tomorrow for their first game at 11:30 a.m. against Akron. They will then take on Temple at 1:30 p.m.. Bracket play will begin at 6 p.m.
