CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The #51-ranked North Carolina men's tennis team won a close match against #66 Purdue to improve to 3-1 in dual-match competition. The Boilermakers were coming off a 4-3 win over #50 Wake Forest, but the Tar Heels were too strong, taking four singles matches and one doubles match. Purdue drops to 2-3 in dual-match play.
In singles action, Tripp Phillips lost at the #1 spot to Purdue's Jason Marshall, the 1999 Big Ten singles champion. Phillips forced a second-set tie-breaker, but Marshall held on to win 6-1, 7-6. Assaf Drori won a crucial match at #2 singles, defeating Derek Miller 7-5, 3-6, 7-5. Drori's three-set match was the last to finish, thus becoming the decisive match for the Tar Heels.
