Softball Fares Well at Ringor/Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The University of North Carolina womens softball team posted a tournament record of 4-1 to reach the quarterfinals of the Ringor /Winthrop Softball Invitational this weekend in Rock Hill, S.C. The Invitational was halted before quarterfinal action began due to rain.
The Tar Heels began pool play on Friday with a 9-0 win over Iona College and a 3-1 win over Bradley University. Carolina returned to action on Saturday defeating Campbell University 6-1 and loosing a tight game to Furman, 3-2. The Heels beat Colgate University 11-3 in the first round of the Championship bracket.
Freshman Natalie Anter led the all Tar Heels batting .571 for the tournament. Anter received All-Tournament honors after hitting 8-14 with two home runs and seven RBIs. Sophomore pitcher Erin Joseph pitched brilliantly winning three games, striking out 11 batters and only allowing three earned runs in 17 innings pitched. The Heels return to action Wednesday when they travel to Wilmington to play the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Carolina returns home March 31 to play Campbell.
