Richie Grimsley, a member of the UNC Department of Athletics since 1999, serves as Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Capital Projects. In that role, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Facilities unit and any capital projects, renovations or improvements to UNC athletic facilities.
Grimsley played baseball at UNC, graduating in 1998 with a degree in exercise and sport science. He went on to earn a master’s degree in sport administration from UNC in 2004.
After three years in the Athletic Ticket Office, he shifted in 2002 to Kenan Stadium, where he managed football facilities. He remained in that role until 2006, then spent two years in the Department of Athletics at UNC Wilmington, where he was in charge of the offices for Facilities and Event Management.
He returned to Chapel Hill in 2008, again working in Facilities. He served as the Facility Manager for the Loudermilk Center for Excellence when it opened in 2011. In 2013 he shifted to oversee all athletic facilities and capital projects.
Grimsley is married to a fellow former Tar Heel student-athlete, Ashley Simpson, a 1999 UNC graduate who was a member of the Tar Heel gymnastics team. They have two daughters, Ali and Brooke.
