Nina Walker, MA, ATC, LAT, has been a staff athletic trainer at Carolina since 2006. She currently serves as the associate head athletic trainer at UNC. She oversees the health care of the men’s and women’s fencing team and cheerleading team.
Walker is a 1999 graduate of Boston University, where she earned a B.S in athletic training. Following her undergraduate degree, Walker attained a M.A. in exercise and sports science with a specialization in athletic training in 2001 from UNC.
She volunteers for committees designed to promote the field of athletic training and serves as President of the North Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association (NCATA) and is Co-Chair of World Lacrosse Sports Medicine Commission.
Walker has also won state, district and national awards for athletic training. Most recently Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer for the NC Athletic Trainers’ Association (2022) and Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association (2022). She has also been recognized for service by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (2020)
Her clinical and research interests are in emergency management and mental health. She speaks nationally about ADHD and autism. She has a strong interest in manual therapy and has taught Positional Release Therapy (PRT). She has obtained Graston Technique M1 training and has taken courses in Postural Restoration (PRI).
Walker is a Licensed Athletic Trainer in North Carolina and has been a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) since 1999. She was a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from 2004-12.
Walker is a New York native who currently resides in Durham, N.C.
