Matt LoPiccolo
- Title:
- Director of Operations
Matt LoPiccolo joined North Carolina track & field / cross country as the director of operations in 2026following a stint down the road at Duke.
"Matt is the ultimate professional in collegiate track & field operations. His experience as an athlete, coach and administrator gives him a unique perspective and understanding of every aspect of our program,” said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Chris Miltenberg.
“We've seen firsthand the impact he made at Duke, and I know he will elevate every part of our operation. Matt's leadership will allow our coaches to spend more time doing what they do best, developing student-athletes and competing for championships."
“I’m grateful to Coach Miltenberg for the confidence he has placed in me and for welcoming me to Carolina Track & Field and Cross Country,” said LoPiccolo. “Opportunities like this are rare, and while crossing Tobacco Road may surprise a few people, joining Carolina allows me to continue doing what I enjoy most, supporting a championship-level program through leadership and operations while remaining in the Triangle, where my family has put down roots. I’m eager to help our student-athletes and coaching staff build on Carolina’s tradition of excellence.”
LoPiccolo served as the director of operations for Duke track & field/cross country for the past four years, while also serving as the meet director for all home competitions for the Blue Devils.
Prior to his time at Duke, LoPiccolo worked for Bull City Running Co. as a race operations manager. He also boasts time in the coaching ranks as an assistant coach for the ZAP Endurance Foundation, an assistant at Duke, and the head coach at SUNY Oneonta.
A hall of fame inductee at Plattsburgh State, LoPiccolo earned DIII All-American honors in the indoor 800m as well as his undergraduate degree in mathematics.
