Josh Borfitz was promoted to senior associate athletic director/chief financial officer for Carolina Athletics in January 2026 after serving in the department's business office since 2017.
Borfitz, who played men's basketball and earned his bachelor's degree and MBA at Ithaca College, has been a valued member of the Carolina Athletics' financial leadership team over the past eight years as the department prepared for significant financial changes related to revenue share and NIL.
He has been pivotal to the department's budgeting process, revenue generation efforts, internal and external reporting and the preparation of coaches' contracts.
Borfitz serves as part of athletic director Steve Newmark's Executive Leadership Team and manages all aspects of the department's financial management, including budget development, forecasting, fiscal policy and strategic financial planning while ensuring full compliance with university, ACC and NCAA regulations. He supervises the athletics business and human resources units and serves as the primary sport administrator for the men's golf program.
The Norwich, N.Y., native resides in Chapel Hill with his wife Nicholle.
