Offensive Assistant - Offensive Line

Corey Gaynor is in his third season on the North Carolina football staff as the assistant offensive line coach, following a standout collegiate playing career with the Tar Heels and the Miami Hurricanes.

Last season, Gaynor’s work with the offensive line helped Carolina finish the season ranked sixth nationally in fourth-down conversion percentage at (73.3%). He mentored Austin Blaske, who signed with the Los Angeles Rams following the NFL Draft.

Under his guidance in 2024, offensive lineman Willie Lampkin earned Sporting News First Team All-America honors and was named the ACC’s Jacobs Blocking Trophy recipient, as the most outstanding offensive lineman in the conference as voted on by the league’s head coaches and defensive coordinators. Additionally, Aidan Banfield became the first offensive lineman to earn Football Writers Athletic Association (FWAA) Freshman All-America honors.

The Tar Heels’ offensive line paved the way for running back Omarion Hampton in 2024, who ranked second in the FBS in rushing yards (1,660) and yards per game (138.3), third nationally in all-purpose yards (2,033) and tied for 13th in rushing touchdowns (15). In the ACC, Hampton ended the regular season leading the conference in rushing attempts (281), yards (1,660), all-purpose yards (2,033), touchdowns (15), attempts per game (23.4) and yards per game (138.3).

A two-time Honorable Mention All-ACC selection (2022, 2023), Gaynor started all 26 games during his two-year stint at Carolina, anchoring an offensive line that consistently ranked among the nation's best and was a team captain in both years. In 2023, he helped anchor an offense that ranked seventh nationally in total yards and blocked for the ACC’s leading rusher, Hampton.

Before Carolina, Gaynor spent five seasons at Miami, where he made 38 starts at center and guard, claiming ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week honors in 2020. Gaynor appeared in 66 career games, starting 64, and was known for his durability, leadership, and elite pass protection.

He was a four-time team captain across his time with the Tar Heels and Canes, as voted on by his teammates at both schools.

A native of Parkland, Fla., Gaynor starred at Stoneman Douglas High School, where he earned first-team all-state and all-county honors, while tallying 97 pancake blocks as a senior.
