Evan Henderson
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
North Carolina wrestling head coach Rob Koll has announced the addition of former Tar Heel wrestler Evan Henderson to his coaching staff in January 2026.
In the 2025-26 season, the Tar Heels opened the season 6-0 in dual action, the best start to a season since 2005-06 and the fifth time in program history Carolina has won their first six duals. The Tar Heels defeated No. 12 Northern Iowa on the road, their highest ranked road victory in nearly a decade. Individually, Bryce Hepner won the 165-pound title at the 2026 ACC Championships, Carolina's first ACC champion during head coach Rob Koll's tenure and the first 165-pound ACC champion for the program since 2009.Â
The Tar Heels qualified six wrestlers for the 2026 NCAA Championships in Cleveland, including four freshmen. The four freshmen qualifiers were the most in program history for Carolina.Â
Â
Henderson, an assistant coach at Lehigh prior to the 2025-26 campaign, returned to Chapel Hill following his athletic career with the Tar Heels from 2011-16.
Â
During his time as a student-athlete, Henderson compiled 125 victories and two All-America finishes in 2013 and 2014 at 141-pounds. The Pennsylvania native was a two-time Atlantic Coast Conference champion, at 141-pounds in 2013 and 149-pounds in 2016.
Â
On the international scene, Henderson was a two-time National Team member, 2022 World Team Trials finalist, 2020 US Olympic Team Trial qualifier, and a six-time US Open placer.
Â
Henderson was an assistant coach for one season at Campbell, and the last three seasons at Lehigh. During his time at Lehigh, the Mountain Hawks posted six All-Americas and nine EIWA champions individually, and three-straight top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships as a team.
Â
A 2016 graduate of UNC, Henderson earned his degree in interpersonal communication and organization, with a minor in coaching. He and his wife, Carly, have two daughters, Tully and Remy.Â
