General: Was an outstanding addition to the Tar Heel program...transferred to Carolina from Southern Methodist University...swam well for the Tar Heels this past summer in the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis...finished in 20th place in the 400-meter individual medley at the Trials...trains under Coach Rick Curl at the famed Curl-Burke Swim Club...has been a national finalist in U.S.S. Championships since age 14 (1994-2000)...was a finalist in swimming at the 1999 World University Games...also an outstanding student, she has been a two-time NCAA Academic All-America selection.
1999-2000: Was a two-time NCAA All-America for the Tar Heels as a sophomore...finished 11th in the 400-yard individual medley at last year’s NCAA Championships...also swam on the Tar Heels’ 800-yard freestyle relay which was an honorable mention All-America selection at last year’s NCAA Championship...also swam well for the Tar Heels in the 2000 ACC Championships as she helped lead Carolina to its first ACC championship in four years...she finished second in the 400 IM and fourth in the 1650 freestyle at last year’s conference meet.
1997-99: Swam for two years at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas...helped lead the Mustangs to Top 3 finishes in the NCAA Championships in each of her two years there...was an honorable mention All-America selection in the mile as a sophomore at SMU.
Prep: Graduated from McLean High School in McLean, Va. in June 1997...was an oustanding swimmer there, setting Virginia high school state records...her family has since relocated to Aurora, Ill.
Personal: Given name is Lauren Rae Silva...is the daughter of Ray and Pat Silva...was born August 22, 1979 in Danville, Va....has one sister...business and mathematical science major...would like to pursue a career in investment banking.
