Valuable three-time returning letterman…excels in the sprint freestyles…swam for the Suburban Swim Club…competed in Slovakia’s National Championships while a prepster…holds three individual and two relay records for the Suburban Swim Club…Junior National Championships qualifier 1998, 1999 and 2000.
2002-03:
Had an outstanding 2003 ACC Championship meet...2003 All-ACC selection...finished as the runnerup in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.97...took 12th place in the 100-yard freestyle at 45.23...placed 34th in the 50-yard freestyle at 21.16...swam the anchor leg on the 200-yard freestyle relay which placed fifth...swam the third leg on the 800-yard freestyle relay that placed second...anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay which placed third...was named ACC Swimmer of the Week on February 3, 2003.
2001-02:
Swam well at the 2002 ACC Championships...swam on 200 FR, 400 FR and 800 FR which all finished third...won consolation heat of 100 free to take ninth place...was 16th in the 200 free and 18th in the 50 free.
Summer 2001:
Had a fine meet at the U.S. Swimming Sectional Championships in Baltimore...was fifth in the 100 free, eighth in the 50 free and 20th in the 100 back.
2000-2001:
A valuable contributor in the freestyles for Carolina…also made his mark as an excellent relay performer…at the 2001 ACC Championships, he finished 22nd in the 50 free (21.03), a lifetime best…he was also a member of the UNC 800 free relay which finished second, swimming the third leg, as well as the 200 free relay which finished third (third leg).
Prep:
Graduated on June 15, 2000 from Coatesville Area Senior High School…a four-year letterman, he was the 2000 Pennsylvania high school state champion in the 200 free…holds 10 pool and school records…scholastic All-America selection…National Honor Society member…served as school board representative for two years.
Personal:
Given name is Justin James Donato…nicknamed “Munch”…has one sister, Amanda, who is a junior swimmer at Drexel University…born July 25, 1982…son of James and Sharon Donato…athlete he most admires is Allen Iverson…biggest sports thrill was placing sixth at the state meet his junior year in the finals of the 100 free...due to an elbow injury he had suffered that morning, he was only able to swim with one arm and received a standing ovation when he finished…loves to ski…majoring in psychology.
