General:
Ranks second in UNC history in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:02.17, second in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:12.86 and tied for sixth in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:02.41...one of the top breaststrokers in the nation after an exciting first three years at UNC…helps Carolina greatly in both breaststroke events and on the medley relays...also swims effectively in the IM events…swam for Poseidon Swimming club team…placed first in the 100 breaststroke at the 1997 zone championships…placed 4th in the 100 breast and 12th in the 200 breast at the 1998 short course Junior National Championships… then went on to place first in both breastrokes at the 1998 long course Junior National Championships...excels academically at Carolina.
2002-03:
2003 NCAA Championships qualifier...took honorable mention All-America honors in the 200-yard breaststroke as she placed 14th with a time of 2:14.64...placed 23rd in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:02.95...finished 43rd in the 200 IM at 2:03.76...did her usual magnificent job at the 2003 ACC Championships...named to the 2003 All-ACC Team...placed second in the 200 breaststroke at 2:14.87, sixth in the 200 IM at 2:02.78 and seventh in the 100 breaststroke at 1:03.92...also swam the breaststroke leg on the 400 medley relay which placed fifth...won the Class of 1989 Most Dedicated Swimmer Award on the UNC team...named to the 2002-03 ACC Academic Honor Roll...also earned membership on the UNC Dean’s List in both semesters of the 2002-03 school year.
2001-02:
An honorable mention All-America selection in the 200-yard breaststroke and on the 400-yard medley relay squad...named first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference...awarded a CSCAA All-Academic Award with a 3.513 GPA...Dean’s List honoree in fall semester 2001-02...named to 2002 ACC Academic Honor Roll...at the 2002 ACC meet, she was second in both the 100 and 200 breast and third in the 200 IM...swam on 400 MR which took third...at the NCAA’s, she finished 14th in the 200 breast and 26th in the 100 breast...swam on 400 MR which placed 15th.
Summer 2001:
Had a great meet at the U.S. Swimming Sectionals in Baltimore...she finished second in the 200 breast, third in the 100 breast, fourth in the 400 IM and 10th in the 200 IM.
2000-2001:
Had an outstanding ACC meet as a freshman...named first team All-ACC...placed fifth in the 200-yard individual medley...took third place in the 100-yard breaststroke...she won the ACC championship in the 200-yard breaststroke with a career best time of 2:14.21...qualified for the NCAA Championships in three events...earned honorable mention All-America honors by finishing 13th in the 200-yard breaststroke...finished 21st in the 100-yard breaststroke and 34th in the 200-yard individual medleynamed to Dean’s List both semesters and to 2001 ACC Academic Honor Roll.
Prep:
Graduated on June 16, 2000 from Monacan High School…was a member of the All Metro Richmond Team from 1997-99 and was the 1999 All Metro Swimmer of the Year…was a Scholastic All America her sophomore through senior years…was team captain of her high school team her senior year…was also a member of National Honor Society and Crime Solver’s Board and was also a Class of 2000 Senior Poet.
Personal:
Given name is Rebecca Dale Acker…nicknamed "Acker" or "Ack"...has also earned the name “Commando” from her teammates…was born December 12, 1981 in Richmond, Va.…is the daughter of Todd and Kathy Acker…has one brother...athletes she most admires are Janet Evans and Julius Peppers…hobbies include rock climbing, white water canoeing and rafting, baking, playing guitar and writing…biggest athletic thrills were watching Carolina beat Duke in basketball last year and enjoying her finals swims at ACC’s last season…says she attracts hurricanes, in that she has been through five, four of which were on family beach "vacations"…a double major in psychology and jounalism...says her career plans are to go to school as long as she possibly can.
