Glauber Named Perfect Game Co-Freshman Pitcher Of The Year
June 9, 2026 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carolina baseball star arm Caden Glauber was recognized as a Perfect Game Co-Freshman Pitcher of the Year, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
The true freshman Glauber has been nothing short of sensational for the Diamond Heels this season, compiling the nation's seventh best ERA (2.20), 10th best hits per nine (5.73), and eighth most victories (10) in his debut campaign. He is the first pitcher in program history to earn a national freshman of the year award.
Â
Head coach Scott Forbes has not been shy about throwing the rookie in the most high leverage situations this season, punctuated by giving Glauber the start in game three of the Chapel Hill Super Regional. He would reward his coach's faith by posting a career long outing (7.1 IP) with a career high 11 strikeouts and just three runs allowed to help his team advance to the College World Series.
Â
His 10-0 record is the most wins for a freshman without defeat this century. He has made 25 appearances this season and Carolina is unbeaten in all 25.
Â
He was a co-winner of the award with Texas' Sam Cozart, who holds a 6-0 record with nine saves and a 1.65 ERA. The most recent Tar Heel to win a rookie of the year award from Perfect Game was colin Moran in 2011.
Â
Glauber and his teammates will take the field in Omaha on Friday, June 12 at 7 p.m. ET against Ole Miss. Coverage for the MCWS opener will be presented on ESPN.
