Softball Opens West Coast Swing With 11-6 Win Over Cal

Shelby Barbee got scoring going in the first with a sac-fly to go up 1-0. MC Eaton followed that up with an RBI double.

In just her second ever start, Sydney Horton blasted a two-run homer to dead center to make it a 4-0 ball game.

Cal would cut it to a 4-3 ball game in the fourth inning, but a Barbee double got a run back in the fifth. Sanaa Thompson plated another in the 6th to go up 6-3.

The Golden Bears were able to score three runs across the sixth and seventh innings to knot things up at 6-6 and force extra innings.

In the eighth, UNC's bat came alive. Thompson notched her fourth hit of the day to get things going. Her four hits tie a career high and is the third time she's tallied four hits a game this season. Â Lexie Roberts worked a walk, Emily LeGette worked a walk, then Barbee had a sac-fly to give the Tar Heels the lead. An Eaton single plated Roberts. Raegan Jennings singled to score LeGette, and then Rayna Blackwell plated two more with an RBI single with a fielding error making the game 11-6.

Lilly Parrish came back out for the eighth inning and shut things down to earn her fourth win of the season.
