Hill & Rennard Advance In Pre-Qualifying Round Of ITA Women’s All-American Championships

CARY, N.C. – University of North Carolina women's tennis opened singles competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's All-American Championships Sept. 20 in Cary, N.C. Both Claire Hill and Mary Grace Rennard earned wins for the Tar Heels in the pre-qualifying round on Saturday.
Saturday Results (Pre-Qualifying, Singles 160)
Claire Hill (UNC) def. Aiva Schmitz (Minnesota) 5-1 (RET, inj)
Mary Grace Rennard (UNC) def. Julia Millan (East Tennessee State) 7-5, 6-2

The pre-qualifying round of the tournament will continue Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. Hill and Rennard will take the courts again looking to secure their spot in the qualifying singles round.
Since 1983, this event has featured the nation's top NCAA Division I tennis athletes. The All-American Championships is also an opportunity for athletes to qualify for the NCAA Doubles and Singles Championships. This tournament will qualify 10 singles players (eight main draw quarterfinalists and two feed-in consolation finalists) and four doubles teams (four main draw semifinalists).
