September 18, 2025 | General, Student-Athlete Development
Chapel Hill, N.C. – Earlier this month, more than 400 Carolina student-athletes took part in the 2025 Student-Athlete Mental Health Expo, led by Mental Health and Performance Psychology experts at the Loudermilk Center Blue Zone.
The event aimed to provide a preventative and proactive approach for student-athletes to explore mental health resources, engage with campus affinity groups and connect with student-led organizations.
"At Carolina, we believe in empowering our student-athletes to thrive both on and off the field," Director of Mental Health and Performance Psychology Dr. Jeni Shannon said. "The Mental Health Expo is just one way we're ensuring they have the resources and support they need to succeed in every aspect of their lives."
During the event, Tar Heel student-athletes participated in activities to encourage positive self-care and relaxation throughout their busy schedules. They also had the chance to interact with therapy puppies, enjoy snacks, enter giveaways and connect with student organizations.
This expo provided student-athletes a chance to engage with their peers, staff and the Chapel Hill community in a meaningful way – all key as they balance the demands academics and athletics.
