Women’s Tennis Completes Day One Of Kitty Harrison Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – University of North Carolina women's tennis opened the fall season Friday afternoon on day one of the Kitty Harrison Invitational hosted at Chewning Tennis Center. The Tar Heels claimed two of four doubles matches and an impressive six of six singles matches.
Carolina's singles victories are highlighted by Oby Kajuru and Mary Grace Rennard's first wins as Tar Heels. Theadora Rabman, Tatum Evans, Alanis Hamilton, and Claire Hill picked up the other singles wins for UNC.
Kajuru and Susanna Maltby made their debut as doubles partners where they claimed a 6-1 win over their opponents from Charlotte. Evans and Rabman were the other Tar Heel duo to pick up a doubles victory on Friday.

UNC will return to action on Saturday and Sunday morning as the Kitty Harrison Invitational continues play at the Chewning Tennis Center. The Tar Heels are set to begin each day at 9:30 a.m.

The tournament is held in honor of Kitty Harrison, the longtime head coach of the Carolina women's tennis team from 1976 to 1998. Eight of Harrison's 22 teams were ranked among the top 25 nationally and, under her direction, Carolina won four ACC championships in a row from 1977 to 1980 and finished as the league runner-up four other times.
Harrison retired after the 1997-98 season as the winningest tennis coach in ACC history in terms of dual-match victories with a 22-year record of 351-224. She was inducted into the North Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame in 2004.
