CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse program had a major presence at The World Games in Chengdu, China last weekend, headlined by four Tar Heels winning gold with Team USA. Chloe Humphrey, Ally Mastroianni, Marie McCool and Taylor Moreno represented Carolina for the Red, White and Blue, while Brooklyn Walker-Welch was a main factor in Canada reaching the final.
Â
McCool had an outstanding tournament and was named MVP after leading Team USA in goals (20) and points (32). She and Walker-Welch were named to the six-woman All-World Team as well. Walker-Welch led a stingy Canadian defense that only allowed 35 goals over five matches.
Â
Humphrey made her first appearance with the USA Sixes team and finished off a strong summer that saw her win multiple Player of the Year awards, gold with the USA field lacrosse team at the PanAm Games, and now gold with the sixes. She tallied 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points at The World Games.
Â
Moreno shined in goal, taking care of the second half of games for Team USA. During the tournament, she made 29 saves and notched a 54.7 save percentage. Mastroianni contributed seven goals and seven assists despite battling a nagging injury.
Â
This was Team USA's second gold medal at The World Games, but its first in the sixes discipline.
