Break Out The Passports, WBB Headed To The 2025 Cancun Challenge
July 23, 2025 | Women's Basketball
CANCUN, Mexico – With pieces of the 2025-26 North Carolina women's basketball schedule coming together, the Tar Heels are grabbing their passports for another non-conference trip out of the country as they head to the 2025 Cancun Challenge. Carolina will face off against Columbia, Kansas State and South Dakota State in a three-game round robin format from Nov. 27-29 in the challenge's Mayan Tournament.
Playing three games in three days, Carolina heads south in search of its second straight multi-team event title. Last season, UNC defeated Ball State, Villanova and Indiana to come away with the Battle4Atlantis championship.
With dates and times to be announced, Carolina squares off against Kansas State for the second meeting between the schools and second in an MTE. Two seasons ago, K-State narrowly bested the Tar Heels at the 2023 Fort Meyers Classic, 63-56. Adding two more foes to its record book, Carolina will face off against Columbia and South Dakota State for the first time between the programs.
The Tar Heels are no stranger to Cancun, last in Mexico at the 2019 Cancun Challenge in the first year of the Courtney Banghart era. Winning two games in two days, Carolina defeated both Temple and Missouri to take home the title.
More information including full schedules for the event will be released at a later date.
